The Winter Sounds
Thanks to our new friends for the tune! Get Kid Icarus here and find more from the band here! And again, learn more about Rock Against Hate here!
Michelle Trachtenberg
The news of her death broke after I recorded the show on Wednesday. I did try to record an extra segment, but I had to scrap it due to audio issues. So I will write a bit here instead.
It seems weird to be hit by a celebrity death, especially when you never met the person. But Michelle Trachtenberg was a huge part of a lot of our lives.
She brought characters to life that resonated with so many of us: Nona from Pete & Pete made it okay to be a little weird. Harriet the Spy made it cool to be hungry for knowledge. I didn't watch much of Buffy or Gossip Girl, but I know a lot of people loved her on those shows (because she for sure crushed those roles). She was also only 39, so this loss is going to sting with me and my fellow millennials for a little while.
She was my first celebrity crush, and I loved everything she did on-screen. I would get so pumped when I saw that she was in a new movie or TV show. To see the tributes pouring in from her colleagues makes me so sad for all of them. But it also shows me that she seemed to be a genuinely lovely human being. I hope she knew what she meant to her fans, and I send happy thoughts to her friends and loved ones.
I want to learn everything I can, and I write down everything I see. Golly says if I want to be a writer someday, I better start now, and that is why I am a spy.
Hotel getaway
Shoutout to Maggie for watching the boy last weekend for us so we could do a thing. We had a lovely evening with dinner, SNL, and other things. I would say 10/10 but the inability to cast my phone to their archaic TV knocks the rating down (because for real: it's 2025). But I would recommend taking a night with just your spouse to hang out. Do it up!
Short or long with your content?
I couldn't figure out what to call this segment, but I think we're fine. I worry about the transition from a bunch of quick one-liners to a full podcast, but I hope to be wrong for the creators' sakes. If you can find a [seemingly easy] way to turn your fun thing into a money-making venture? You should do that. I hope that couple does well with the thing!
Tony Hawk remaster on the way?
A remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 is all but confirmed at this point, though we will have to wait until Tuesday for any official word. I am excited about this, though. If we get another THPS game using the same engine as the 1 and 2 remake, it will rule.
MLB and ESPN split
I figured this would happen, since ESPN has not been great at covering baseball in the last few years. But part of me did think the league would push the network for more coverage until the end of the deal. Instead, the league said "peace out, y'all" and will look for a new home next season. I hope we get a new version of Baseball Tonight on a network that I can already watch. Do the right thing, Manfred!
Flyers
The Captain returned from his holiday and it was like he never left. Thank you for putting in the work, my friend!
⚾
And that, as we say, is that! Thank you for joining me once again. Have a lovely day and come on back next week to find out what else bothers or intrigues ol Pat. Until then, don't do anything I wouldn't do!
Crap open a cold one!
